JellyFish - Shopping search engine where you get paid. Huh?
JellyFish is another shopping search engine that you need to be aware of. It does not have any advertising, a bonus, so it makes its money by charging vendors to be on their site. Interesting concept.
They call themeselves Robin Hood, I associate socialism, but it is not like that. They have come up with a model that pays the searcher back for their purchase if they go through the JellyFish search engine to find a product. It’s a neat idea, and it makes the sellers happy, but what I think is great about this site is the interface and usability. It is easy to use, searches can be refined by price, stores and manufacturer. It has nice pictures of the products. Overall it is a very clean user experience that helps people looking for stuff find it fast.
Let me give an example, it is much easier than trying to explain each feature.
- Searched for laptop computer.
- Received 900 results; prices range up to $4,800.
- Refine by manufacture and pick Apple. I now have 11 laptops in the results.
- Refine price with a cool slider bar to $0 - $2,000.
- I choose a PowerBook G4… sweet
- JellyFish gives me six stores to pick from with:
- Merchant rating
- Sales volume
- Price
- Cash back from JellyFish… (the percentage earned back after purchasing product)
- Price after cash back, aka bottom line price
- I pick a store with the best price and rating, and JellyFish sends me on my way.
My cash back is recorded at JellyFish, and I walk away saving a few bucks. Like I said, it really is not the money savings that makes JellyFish cool, it is the ease of use that really makes it worth the search.
I see no reason why shopping should be hard this season with all of the great shopping search engines out there. Google, Yahoo!, Ask and MSN are good for a lot of things, but use a shopping search engine to shop, otherwise you will be wasting a lot of time.

Although jellyfish has an interesting idea, the number of products available are limited. They don’t have a large enough number of subscribers to provide comprehensive returns on product searches. I give it two sweets out of five.
